Product Description and Overview:

ClearPores is a three-part system incorporating a skin wash, a herbal supplement, and topical cream produced and sold by WorldNiche Herbals. As mentioned in other reviews, the data has shown higher effectiveness when a three-step system is used - one that incorporates cleansing, treatment and prevention/maintenance.

WorldNiche Herbals produces and sells an assortment of naturally-based products including nutritional supplements for a variety of health-related issues.

ClearPores claims that its products are produced in a certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) facility. Why should you care? This certification ensures the highest degree of consistency, reliability and safety.

We have not been able to independently verify any definitive studies indicating the efficacy of botanicals and/or herbal extracts for the treatment of acne, nor are we aware of any approval by the FDA for the use of botonicals and/or herbal extracts for the treatment of acne.

Product Claims and Features:

ClearPore's three part system begins with a Deep Facial Wash that kills acne bacteria, facilitates the removal of dead skin cells, and removes excessive sebum. The natural herbal supplements attack acne bacteria from the inside before it turns into a pimple. Finally, the third step is the Facial Protection Cream that limits the growth of bacteria, removes debris and excess sebum, and moisturizes the skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

While we are skeptical of the herbal ingredients in the supplement, both the Deep Facial Wash and Facial Protection Cream both contain 2% Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid has been found to be one of the best ingredients available for the treatment of acne. Another benefit of Salicylic Acid is that it is not as harsh on the skin, and is not as likely to dry or irritate the skin like some other ingredients. However, this non-drying benefit is a bit undermined as the wash also contains 1% Alcohol which could potentially dry the skin.

Customer Testimonials:

The following testimonials have been obtained from a number of sources including the Company's website.

Positive:
"I have seen significant improvements in my skin, I have less break outs. I have more confidence in my skin. I feel better about my appearance. Thank you." Rebecca (ClearPores).

"I just started using the product (3 days). But even in such a short period of time, I saw results: My skin looks more even, and red spots become lighter, no new acne appeared!" Maryna (ClearPores)

"Helps and clears up acne fast. Broke out at first, but that was totally expected and normal. In one month, my whole entire face was acne free." Davon (acne.org)

"It worked for me very well, I used it for two months and it cured my acne. I think their "herbal formula" did the trick, since other parts of the system are just face washers." Tom Sincer (acne.org)

Negative:
"...it made my acne worse. When I initially used the product I thought I saw some slight improvement. Then in the second month, the acne got really bad (which the website warns that it will as your body supposedly cleanses your skin of toxins), then in the fourth month I started to see some slight improvement (from the second month) but certainly not better than before I started." K. Foster (Amazon)

"it doesnt work.. been using it for 10 weeks ans my face keeps breaking out.. James (acne.org)

"Does not clear acne. The facial wash doesn't feel like it's even working. It just made my skin worse and then it stayed worse and did not improve." Anonymous (acne.org)

Ingredients:

Both the Deep Facial Wash and the Facial Protection Cream utilize 2% Salicylic Acid as the active ingredient, which is used as skin treatment to treat acne, remove warts and to treat psoriasis and other skin conditions. Dermatologists recommend 2% of Salicylic Acid as the perfect amount to treat acne.

The ClearPores Herbal Supplement contains several herbs and botanicals that do not have very much research supporting their effects on acne. While Dandelion root, Red Closer and Echinacea applied topically may have protective effects for many kinds of skin conditions (such as psoriasis and eczema), we are not aware of any clinical studies proving their effect on acne. Additionally, while Aloe Vera as a topical solution has effective moisturizing and healing properties, the ClearPores Supplement contains Aloe Vera that is meant to be swallowed. We are unaware of any research that suggests that Aloe Vera taken internally has any effect on the skin.

As mentioned above, having access to research data that speaks to the efficacy of these botonicals taken orally for the treatment of acne would be very helpful.

Deep Facial Wash Ingredients:

• Active Ingredient: SD Alcohol 40 (1%), Salicylic Acid (2%).

• Other Ingredients: Deionized Water, Disodium, Laurethsulfosuccinate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Testrastearate, Lauramide Diethanolamide, Glycerine, Ethoxydiglycol, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate, Ishohexadecane. Herbal Supplement Capsules:

• Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale), despite being looked at as just a weed by many, has been used since the 10th century for skin-related problems, including eczema. Dandelion has also been utilized as a treatment for a variety of other ailments, such as gallstones, premenstrual syndrome, and high blood pressure.

• Burdock Root (Arctium lappa) is used in Asian medicine and by homeopathic practitioners for acne and other skin conditions, like psoriasis and eczema. Studies have shown that the root may possess anti-microbial and wound-healing activity.

• Aloe Vera has been used as a medical plant since biblical times. Studies have shown that aloe gel helps increase the healing rate of a variety of skin injuries. The healing power of Aloe Vera comes from increasing the availability of oxygen to the skin, and by increasing the synthesis and strength of tissue.

• Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus) has been documented as effective against skin inflammation and infection.

• Echinacea purpurea, touted as the “herbal remedy for colds and flu,” has been shown to boost the immune system and fight inflammation. Echinacein, a chemical in Echinacea, also helps broken skin heal faster. By inducing fibroblasts, the tissue-building cells of the body, to work more efficiently, new skin is formed at a faster rate to replace the damaged tissue from blemishes, cuts, scars, psoriasis, or eczema. Echinacea also contains echinacoside, a natural antibiotic.

• Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is one of the oldest herbs to be used medicinally, with evidence of its cultivation dating back to prehistoric times. Its popularity as a treatment for skin disease even resulted in its placement in the U.S. National Formulary until 1946. Red Clover is still taken internally for chronic skin conditions and externally for acne.

• Sarsaparilla Root (Smilax officinalis), only the root of this plant can be used medicinally. Although Sarsaparilla has gained much of its popularity as a root beer flavoring agent, Caribbean Indians and Native Americans have traditionally used Sarsaparilla for skin conditions and urinary complaints. Studies have shown that Sarsaparilla can also be helpful for treating psoriasis and leprosy.

• Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) has been used for centuries to treat a number of different ailments, such as coughing, arthritis, skin inflammations, canker sores, herpes, and infections.

• Turmeric (Curcuma) is known to have anti-inflammatory effects, so it may be used to treat arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Topically, turmeric may be used as a powder or mixed with oil and made into a paste to treat cuts, scrapes, and skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis, diaper rash, and psoriasis. Its anti-inflammatory properties may reduce inflammation and its possible anti-infective properties may help to prevent infection of skin injuries.

• Atlantic Kelp (Ascophylum nodosum) comes from a marine plant and contains many minerals. It is most commonly used as a source for iodine, which works well as a treatment for mild thyroid deficiencies. It is also thought that Kelp regulates skin texture, an important factor for those with skin problems.

• Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) is most popular for its use as a pain-reliever. Cayenne’s active ingredient, Capsaicin, lessens the feeling of pain by depleting the messengers that send signals to the nerves that sense pain. It also acts as a stimulant and fights infection.

• Other Ingredients: Duratex, Magnesium stearate.
